The Lola of Pao and Diego passed away today. She was a Marian devotee and her apostolate was to make a give away rosaries. Even I have one given by her through Pao. Was touched when we realized that today is First Saturday..Mama Mary's day. She did not only embrace her in her time of difficulty but took her by the hand and picked her up to meet her Son. She is one lucky woman. Mom would always tell me that the rosaury is very powerful. Pao and Diego's Lola is a living testimony of this.

Pray the rosary.

Pie and I went to visit them while they were preparing to transfer her to Arlington. Sad sad day for all of them. But no matter how sad, I know they will all be okay...their Lola will make sure of that from up there.

Friday. Fasting. Fish

Taking abstinence very seriously this Lent. So far, I've only messed up for one Friday.
And that was for roast beef, with matching prayers and super paulit-ulit apology to God.

I love meat. Lord, you know that. Look kindly upon my measly efforts and bless me.

What's one day in a week Jeannie..for 1 month. Puny...compared to dying in the cross to save mankind.

Pam, Pie and I have been wanting to eat in Romulo's. Heard a lot about it already and so many blogs have been written about it too. 3 words...sinigang.na.liempo hahahaha

You think that a mere phone call is going to hinder us from eating there....no no no.

Finally ate lunch there yesterday. Passed by and it wasn't so full, so go go go. Problem was, we all had a heavy breakfast already so we only ordered this.

Caesar Salad with tuyo flakes instead of anchovies and another salad with shitake and some Knorr-tasting sauce. It was okay but nothing mind-blowing.

Pammy, ever the healthy-eater ordered Pinoy nachos...instead of nacho chips, it was kamote!

It was nice but it's really hard to enjoy when your mind is on the crispy pata, adobo and rice haha.

Going to Romulo's when you're already busog is a bad idea...but we really enjoyed the place. Can't believe there's a place this nice tucked somewhere in the Scout area.

There's something about lunching with the girls that just seems so posh:-)

We're not done yet Romulo's.. we will be back...

And the next time we go....

...we will definitely be starving and so ready for you:-)

Day 3 Cyberzone

I guess by now it's very obvious that I have fallen in love with Cyberzone. Coded today but managed to sneak away for 2 hours. Pie found her external hard drive of choice already but we keep finding reasons to go back.

Today's lunch was in Teriyaki Boy! Another unanimous decision... Japanese:-)

This is one of the cleanest and quietest Teriyaki Boys that I have ever been to.

This is actually what I was craving for today. My favorite..Tempura Sashimi Salad. No TB visit is complete without it.

Pie was craving for Pork Misono and this was the closest thing to it.

Well, she would've eaten shit just as long as she eats it with this...

I wanted to veer away from the Bentos and rice toppings so I ordered Gyoza.

But I lost the battle:-( I.AM.ONLY.HUMAN )

Ofcourse I'm regretting it now..every butil...but if you ask me to eat there again...in a heartbeat:-)

Went to our flavor-of-the-month mall again today..SM Cyberzone. Lunch was unanimous...Chinese!

You got me at "roasts & dimsum" haha...looked very promising so...GO! Fan!

Look at what was on the table...hoisin sauce! I love it already:-)

Hoisin is my absolute favorite...I eat it with everything (Kropeck and hoisin..my personal invention..try it. )

Rediscovering Wendy's

It's been ages since I last ate in Wendy's. I was never really a die-hard like Pie. There was one near our house and it was her favorite midnight delivery.

Was in SM Cyberzone today and we were looking for a place to eat. "Tara, Wendy's!," Pie said.
Parang suddenly I craved..Why not?!

What to order?

I don't really know my Wendy's very well so I stuck with the tried and tested Bacon Mushroom Melt and a salad for health reasons haha.

YUMMY!!!! I'm not really a burger girl but my gosh it was really yummy. If I WERE to eat a burger, Wendy's would be it. Super mauulit.

Sunday Funday

Spent a nice and peaceful Sunday in Valle today.

Chef Charlie had an exam and needed to practice on us...life is good:-)

Had fun watching Euwy steal his carrot from him..getting it back was an even bigger challenge than cooking the food itself haha.

Left them for awhile and went to Eastwood with Pammy and QT. Had weird-tasting coffee in Starbucks.

When we got back, this was waiting for us..

Chicken breast with tarragon sauce and mashed potatoes. Yummy! It was supposed to be my cheat day today, but with delicious healthy food like this...rice what?

Asia, Jasmin and Pammy loved it too. QT was too busy eating to have her picture taken.

Didn't even notice that the kids were eating pizza!

The mall, the Buzz, yummy yet healthy food...

...plus wine and good conversation. Sunday = Funday:-)

Korean Day

I need a haircut. Unless I have a serious blow-dry, my hair looks like this. Bruhilda.

My ultimate dream is a wash and wear hairdo. A wise hair-dresser told me once, "Darling that's impossible, you don't need a haircut, you need a miracle!"

So true. Nothing is easy in this world. If you want fantastic-looking hair, you really have to make an effort to fix it.

It all starts with a good haircut. Bored with the normal parlors..we decided to have a "funky 'do". Meaning, have our hair cut by a foreigner.

So excited...but almost walked out when I saw this..

But we were already there, so no turning back! Best bless to my hair!

Looked at their Korean hair magazine for inspiration.

Closed the magazine and prayed.

The hairdresser turned out to be an English-speaking Korean who looked like she knew what she was doing. This is how it turned out...

Thinner on the sides, tamer but boring. The pictures in the magazine scared the hell out of me so better be safe than sorry haha.

But QT threw all caution to the wind and put her hair's fate in the hands of "Sandara".

The Koreanovela look! She loves her new hairdo and seriously, without the anime' curls, it looks really good. "Sandara" did a great job but apparently, you can take a girl out of Korea but you can never take Korea out of her:-)

P.S. Spent the day with Charles.. so good to see him after a long time.

He was with his good friend Mr. Lee, who happens to be, guess what....Korean!:-)

Watched the last full show of I Love You Goodbye in Trinoma last night. Been wanting to watch this since the day it opened but the universe seemed to conspire against me. It was a blessing in disguise that we were able to watch it on it's last showing days because there was hardly anyone in the movie house. It was so empty that we sat one seat apart..super concentrate! It was virtually the giant screen, Gabby, Angelica, Derek and me!

I wasn't really expecting anything deep or mind-blowing, I just wanted to enjoy a good 'ol Star Cinema film and ofcourse bask in Gabby C.'s first movie come-back in 13 years. But come to think of it, the movie made me think...

Long after the movie was done, I still found myself thinking...if I were Angelica, who would I have chosen? Gabby, the one who loved her or Derek, the one whom she loved.

Fine, Derek was really the first but he became the ex who left her all of a sudden and broke her heart in a million pieces. And Gabby was the knight in shining armor who picked up those little pieces and put her heart back together again.

But for me the heart is like Humpty Dumpty. All the kings horses and all the kings men tried but failed to put Humpty together again.

So who will I choose?

The guy who I was willing to put my own dreams on-hold for because being with him is a dream in itself? The guy who made my heart sing no matter what the song was.. hirap, ginhawa, tears, laughter..as long as it was sung together. The same guy who just left to follow his dream without even caring that yours was being thrown out the window. The guy who just packed up and never said said goodbye. But still remains to be the guy who will always be your forever what-if and the one who got away..

As opposed to the guy who makes you dream new dreams and will do everything in his power to make it come true for you? The guy who doesn't dream of being the cause of your smile but is the one who dries your tears and makes sure that you will never cry again. The one who doesn't make your heart sing but is willing to sing any song you like. The guy who offers you forever knowing that you are still holding on to your past. The same guy who is beside you and assuring you that he will always stay.

Now that my thoughts are in black and white, it really seems like a no-brainer. Gabby is the sure winner. For me, a Derek will never make me completely happy until i have fully come into terms with the wounds of the past. And the only one who can do that is me.

Obviously, i still have no answer. Angelica's dilemma was resolved by nature. I don't know if that's lucky or not. Until then, I am in no rush to decide. I am not in that situation anyway. Hypothetically speaking though, I will just wait for my own Gabby and let my heart decide if he is worth forgetting my Derek.

Because in the end, the heart really has a mind of it's own.

Diet Diaries: Day 1

Had a really sad pan-de-bistek lunch.
Tasteless, yucky, boring.

With rice, this beefsteak was glorious.
Happiness in a plate.
But now...

Stop. Stop thinking of the good times.
Dwell on the bad.
Rice made me fat.
Poison.

Bread isn't any better but it will do for now.
Baby steps.
I might faint.
But in the next few days, you will have to go too.

I still can't find it in my heart to fire you.

Is it really so hard to say thank you?

When a kind deed is done, a sweet word said, or a job is completed...
a simple thank you would be nice.

Not because every good act should be rewarded by a pat in the back, by money or a trophy..
No, not at all.

Not even as a mere consuelo de bobo.

Being thanked is a gift, not for the one who was kind but for the one who has been kind to. It liberates you, nourishes.. and heals.

It should not be just a word that comes automatically out of your mouth but a feeling that comes from your heart.

What is in abundance in your heart comes forth from your lips.

Don't just make it a habit to say thank you..make it a habit to appreciate.

Only then can you really and truly be thankful.

Try it... your world will be less dreary and gray. The thorns will outnumber the roses and the glass will always be half-full.

THINGS I WAS MOST THANKFUL FOR IN 2009

Gratitude is the greatest gift of the heart. This is my way of reminding myself that the blessings I received in 2009 greatly outweighed the heartaches. There have been tears and sadness, but who is stupid enough to dwell on those things when I have soooooo much to be thankful for..not me.

Everytime I pray, i cannot help but ask for this, ask for that..bless this, bless that..
I sometimes forget to say thank you..
This is my prayer...my prayer of thanks.

Qt once told me, "Jeannie, you have no right to be sad..you hitched on a wagon to reach a star but you got the moon instead."

True.

I have millions of things to be thankful for but here are are few of the things I was most thankful for in 2009:

E-soft - my therapy...a job that doesn't require you to talk to anyone and only requires you to compete with yourself..HEAVEN. Getting paid while working in your jammies..DOUBLE HEAVEN:-) to tet who was generous enough to share her blessing with us:-)

Games..games..games galore.. i-touch, i ♥ you, i don't know why i had to wait til 2009 to get you

Kambi's renovation...realized in 2009 that shabby is so not chic!:-) New look, new attitude...Kambi wasn't the one who had a rebirth, it was me...

Speaking of birth...EUWY! you brought us so much joy when you were born..Ninang loves you:-)

Watching the dreams of people close to me come true is like my own dream coming true for me too:-)

I'm thankful for jobs that seem more like fun than work..and a chance to meet and collaborate with great people. To the people who gave us these opportunities..you are the greater blessing!

Our (pammy, qt and me) birthday tradition: to make each other's birthday special by being together.

Best birthday gift to each other: the gift of presence...where and how, lavish or not, simple or bongga..not important..as long as it is spent with each other.

The goal: Only happiness and love on the birthday itself..it is our personal duty to make sure that nothing or no one should or can bother the celebrant on the sacred day..

It all started with, Pammy: wanna salubong for Qt's birthday?..and the rest was history. texts back and forth..estimated times of arrival..celebrant's refusal to take a bath..scheming right under her very nose.

I admit, I was never a good daughter of Mother Earth.
Throwing candy-wrappers anywhere and everywhere, collecting the cutest plastic bags, styrofoam galore...guilty!
Recycling? Not in my vocabulary.
Until Ondoy.

When something that massive hits you in the face..it does something to your heart.
For every tear that fell from the victims' eyes..I remembered each and every basura that I haphazardly threw out my car window.

The biggest tragedy of all is when you know that the misfortune you are going through is brought about by yourself.. by your own hands.

I know I that I can never take back any of the trash i threw and that all the packed lunches, bottled water and clothes that I gave to the typhoon victims can never compensate for my environmental sin.

But it doesn't end there there. Change is in my hands...and in order for Mother Earth to forgive us, we must change our ways.

This is my own little way of repenting..my atonement for my sins against nature.

Road Trip

Our mission: to follow a dream.
So off to Tagaytay we went.

Passed by this place called Nurture, a spa/resto/wedding place. Promise to try it out soon.

Sadly, the dream fizzled out right before our very eyes. It literally and figuratively was a dead end. So decided to just drown our sorrows in good food. We were in Tagytay after all:-)

Mile-Hi was great! Ate liempo in an American Diner hahaha. Lunch more than made up for the rather disappointing morning. Had to take a moment to digest... A few minutes of senti and malayong-tingins:-)

But ofcourse Z just had to do her thing...

and so we ended up like this...

20 years of friendship this year..I am blessed. Truly and unbelievably blessed with good friends.

So what if some dreams don't come true..in my own little world, my life is a dream:-)

Peace of my mind

I don't disturb other people's peace so I hope no one disturbs mine too.

Apparently it is.

Find your peace. And when you do, fight with all your might to keep it.

Peace should start from your own heart. The ilonggos say it best.. pahimunong.. be still.. Maybe then you will find your peace...

And through that we can have home peace... country peace... world peace...

And hopefully, maybe stop disturbing Jeannie's peace.

My good friend Vigie surprised me with tickets for Earth, Wind and Fire! Woot woot!
2nd row..but I managed to transfer to the 1st haha.

Boogie Wonderland ( 1st song ) , In the Stone, Reasons, That's the Way of the World, After the Love has Gone.. one hit after another. They didn't even give us a chance to recover from the last song to the next! It just kept getting better! They are all older now but the heart and the soul of their music is still the same.

Goosebumps..from the first song to the last. Like I always tell myself, you cannot argue with magic. If it's there, it's there.. even if many years have passed and people have come and gone..the magic remains.

Enough said...Earth, Wind and Fire, you still rock my world:-)

i don't have a single artistic bone in my body.
i'd like to think of myself as more literary.
ya whatever, sweet lemon. i can't draw a straight line, i don't know what color goes with what, or what accessory or furniture goes well with whatever.

that's one of my biggest frustrations. i really get jealous with people who can draw, paint, design, style...because i can't draw a straight line even if it kills me.

i'm jealous of qt who's so good with her arts and crafts..her christmas gift wrapping is like a work of art. i'm jealous of pammy who can whip up a great outfit and always come out looking like a fashion model.

Jealousy is my least favorite emotion and so i dabbled.... in the arts ( lord, have mercy ).
once in a while i'd get crazy and take on an artistic project..hits and misses..well more misses ( i'm remembering a really sad looking rose that i painted many years back.. yuck).

the hits are few and far between haha...but for someone with zero motor skills and is artistically challenged, i strive to amaze myself from time to time.

it was my niece's sally j's 18 birthday.. just a small party.. a venue for me to be trying hard.
my job was to fix the buffet table ( seriously??)...and with blind faith, i did.

but yellow flowers seemed more apt...

and with the trusty aid of manang diding, the best pleater in town.. she made the images in my head come to life. thank you for being "my hands."

Had my i-touch fixed with my greenhills buddies pie and jay. As usual had too much tacos and barbecues in the Theater Foodcourt so we went out to "digest" after. We sat in this place called Sarsa Lokal for a quick break.. without even ordering at all (kapal). After 5 minutes, we stood up, left and forgot all about it. We were too busy with the tiangge, regina's, the px store etc. etc until pie screamed.. oh my god i lost my phone!

First thing she thought of was to go the shop where we stayed the longest. I thought it made no sense for all of us to look in just one place. Fine, I admit i was tired from all the walking and I just couldn't stand seeing her so stressed. I told her I'd just meet her in Starbucks. I'm not a completely heartless sister and believe it or not, there is a method to my laziness.

On my way to Starbucks, I decided to pass by Sarsa Lokal again just in case. Suntok sa buwan... wouldn't hurt. The minute they saw my face, everybody started to get excited. Apparently, my very intelligent and alert sister left her phone there!!! The honest staff of this lovely restaurant immediately gave the phone to the guard standing nearby. After going through the motions ( what's your number, what's the model of the phone), I was able to tell pie that these wonderful people had found her phone.

In the light of Ondoy's tragedy, we Filipinos are bugbog sarado already. Crushed, defeated, aping-api.. but there are only two results of this.. to rebel and lash out by doing bad things ( rolex robbery ) or to stay good and do good despite.

To the staff of Sarsa Lokal and Manong Security Guard, you inspire me. You could have easily sold the phone.. i mean we are in Greenhills the land of Buy and sell after all! But you chose not to. It is really good to know that there are still good people left in this world:-)

what's better than having a good massage?
having a good massage in my own bed, in my own room!

unless it's in my favorite spa or in one of those ridiculously expensive spas.. i really get icky about using communal slippers, robes, and towels. i'm all for ambiance and enjoying the whole spa experience, but sometimes, when you badly need to get rid of some aches and pains, you just want it right here, right now.

so my best bet for a good home service massage is Happy Feet Spa. it's open til 1am so it's perfect for the massage-then-go-to-sleep combo.
